Joe Mombourquette 1922 - 2007

I just learned that Major (Retired) Joe Mombourquette has passed away and
his funeral will be Saturday, 1 December, in Oromocto New Brunswick. Joe was an absolutely wonderful human being. A great soldier
(two wars in the infantry), leader, PSO and community man. Also a close
friend, mentor and example to me hundreds of others. Joe will be sadly
missed.
As Colonel Commandant of Personnel Selection Branch I wish to extend our
condolences to Theresa, Colin and the whole Mombourquette family, on
behalf of all members of the Branch, and the numerous service personnel
that Joe has helped, motivated, touched in his long and impressive career
in uniform and in retirement.

Burton's Joe Mombourquette is being praised as a man who did much for many.
The former Oromocto MLA and popular community member died Tuesday at the Oromocto Public Hospital. He was 85.
Born in Lower L'Ardoise, Richmond County, Cape Breton, he was a veteran of the Second World War, the Korean War, was a provincial cabinet minister in the government of the late Richard Hatfield, and a founding member of the Burton's Lions Club.
Oromocto Mayor Fay Tidd described Mombourquette as a man who contributed much to the Oromocto community through his work as a politician and as a participant in a score of service oriented organizations.
"I don't think I ever heard anyone who didn't like Joe Mombourquette," Tidd said. "There was no one more respected in the area than he. He will be sorely missed."
Premier Shawn Graham offered condolences to the Mombourquette family Tuesday.
"On behalf of all New Brunswickers, I would like to extend sincerest condolences to Mrs. Theresa Mombourquette as well as Mr. Mombourquette's children and his family and many friends during this difficult time," Graham said in a statement.
In a 2002 interview, Mombourquette described his life as both interesting and challenging.
"I have been lucky, so lucky," he said at the time. "I have enjoyed life. I have a wonderful wife and wonderful children."
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Oromocto, on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 11 a.m., with Father Ken Weir as celebrant.
Interment will take place immediately after the mass in the adjoining cemetery.
