Mr. Ernest B. Beno

Brigadier-General, Retired OMM, CD, MPA, BBA, CHRP




Ernest Beno Ernest Beno retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in 1997 at the rank of Brigadier-General. He holds a Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA) from the University of New Brunswick and a Masters of Public Administration (MPA) from Queen�s University, 1987-90.

Military courses include the Army Staff College, the Instructor-in-Gunnery Course, the Company Commanders� Course, a variety of NATO joint and combined operations courses, the French Language Course and the National Defence College of Canada.

His military experience is extensive: Having served two years in the Militia (1960-62) he enrolled in the Regular Force as a Gunner in the Second Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery. Commissioned three years later, he then served six years in the 1st Regiment RCHA where he rose from the rank of 2Lt to Captain in Gagetown and Germany. This was followed by attending Army Staff College and the British Instructor-in-Gunnery Course, and subsequent employment as an instructor at the Artillery School in Gagetown, NB.

General Beno held several command appointments, such as: 1st Airborne Battery of the Canadian Airborne Regiment (Edmonton), �E� Battery (Para) 2RCHA Petawawa, Commanding Officer 2RCHA Petawawa, Base Commander/Deputy Commander Special Service Force of C.F.B. Petawawa, and Commander Special Service Force (a light infantry brigade group), Petawawa, ON.

Other appointments were Directing Staff and Deputy Commandant of the Land Forces Command and Staff College (Kingston), Director General Reserves and Cadets (Ottawa), and Director General Military Personnel (Ottawa). He has been awarded the Order of Military Merit, and the Canadian Forces Decoration. He continues to serve, in the capacity of Honorary Colonel, the Princess of Wales� Own Regiment, Kingston and Colonel Commandant of the Canadian Forces Personnel Selection Branch.

Currently General Beno is an active consultant in HR management, training, professional development, contingency planning and emergency response management. He has written extensively on training and conducts national and international counter-terrorism exercises. He teaches two distance learning courses for the Royal Military College of Canada. For the past four years General Beno has been the Senior Consultant Canada for PAE Government Services, focused on the Canadian Forces Contractor Augmentation Program (CANCAP) and several United States, NATO and United Nations construction, logistics, and camp support contracts.

General Beno and his wife Mia live in Kingston, Ontario.
